Six new swine flu cases found in Kansas

Kansas health officials announced this morning that they had identified six new cases swine flu in Johnson, Wyandotte and Ottawa counties.

The announcement by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment today brings to 18 the number of cases of 2009 H1N1 influenza that have been confirmed in Kansas.

Three new cases were reported today in Wyandotte County, all involving children. Two new ones were reported in Johnson County, one involving an adult and another involving a child.

Overall, seven of the 18 Kansas cases are in Johnson County, including four involving children. No details were immediately available about the cases involving the children.

Another seven cases are in Wyandotte County, including six involving children.

One of the Wyandotte County children was hospitalized but has since been discharged and has fully recovered. The child hadn’t traveled away from Kansas City recently; nor had the child come in contact with anyone affected by the epidemic.

Individuals experiencing flulike symptoms are urged to stay home for at least a week from the onset of symptoms. Others living in the home should also minimize their contact with others, including keeping children home from school.
